The following penalties when driving an illegally modified or non-compliant vehicle apply are:
First offence (no driving offence prior to this one) You will receive a defect notice and a notice to appear in front of a judge who will decide what will be your sentence, to find out more on what a defect notice. Second offence (1st repeat offence) getting caught repeating the same offence (i.e. driving a defective vehicle, does not matter if it is your vehicle or not) within 3 years of the first offence, the vehicle impounded for 48 hours and another notice to appear in court. with this you may be fined up to $3000. |
